Shure SM7B. The Shure SM7B is my favorite dynamic microphone under $500. There is no need to get a shock mount or windscreen as it comes with everything built in (plus it comes with an additional windscreen, not pictured). In my mind, this makes it one of the best values out there and it produces great sound. Highly recommended! Feb 19, 2017 · A similar, cheaper mic - if you can find one - is a Peavey PVM 520i. Head to head, it's brighter and not as "dense", somehow, as the SM7b, but in the mix it's about the same. Both the RE320 and the MD421II work well, tho', and the MD421n even better, but I hate using vintage mic's on loud sources. Shure SM-7 - EV RE320 mics for voice - maybe helpful comments ... Ive had the SM7b, not the RE. Stevie Wonder, McCartneys RAM has pictures of the RE. I have been told that the RE20 vs. the SM7B is basically a wash. Six of one, half a dozen of the other so to speak. The RE320 definitely does both jobs for me. The voice sounds crisper (which is perhaps just a European thing - many of our favourite mics that aren't shared commonly, like Shures, seem to have this slightly brighter tone to them), the RE20 was a bit mellow sounding.

I recently purchased an SM7B knowing full well that my old Focusrite Saffire 6 would not be able to offer it enough clean gain, but really wanted to give the SM7B a try. Minus all the preamp self-noise the vocal sound I got with the SM7B was in a completely different league than what I have been using the previous 20 years.

Finally pulled the trigger and bought, right away I did a shootout of the SM7B vs the SM58. The SM7B is loved by many and I'm not going to knock it, but I feel if you're trying to get the most clear and accurate sound, the RE27 is my choice. Every voice is different but I feel this mic is a little bright in its neutral position, so I use the built in filter and roll off the top. и From the sample that I heard, RE320 is lot brighter than RE20. And RE20 is lot brighter than SM7B (these two I own). I think SM7B has meatier sounds and very nice texture that is hard to replace with any other mics. More and more I use SM7b, it convinced me that it is one of the best mic for voice.
Between the SM7b and the RE320, I prefer the MD421n on vox, but then the Shure. Did I say that already? There are lots of good mics. I had an SM7B but for my voice, it didn't sound the way I wanted it to. I switched to an EV RE320 and it sounded best for me. You just gotta pick the one that sounds best for your voice and take your environment into consideration too. I'd recommend going to a music store and testing then out.
